The Turkish Minister of Health, Fakhruddin Koca, announced that the total death toll from the earthquake that struck the south of the country has risen to 5,434, and 31,777 injured so far.

  Koca said, during a joint press conference with Hulusi Akar, the Turkish Minister of Defense in Hatay state, in the south of the country, that the number of people rescued from under the rubble in Hatay state alone has so far reached 1,846 people.

  He pointed to the collapse of 2,749 buildings in the state, according to the initial census, indicating that reinforcements from search and rescue cadres are on their way to the state to double the number of working crews, as of tomorrow (Thursday).

  For his part, the Turkish Minister of Defense announced the opening of all military headquarters and barracks located in the earthquake areas to the afflicted, noting that about 7,500 members of the armed forces continue to work in the earthquake area, and another 1,500 will join them , starting tomorrow.




  In turn, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) confirmed the occurrence of 422 aftershocks, the strongest of which reached 7.6 degrees in the district center of Albistan in the state of KahramanmaraÅŸ.

  In a statement, the administration indicated that 59,971 people participated in the search and rescue efforts, including 3,251 who came from 65 countries, confirming that 4,764 vehicles, 

including heavy machinery, trucks and cranes, had been sent to the earthquake-hit areas to participate in search and rescue operations.

  A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria at dawn two days ago , Monday, followed hours later by another 7.6-magnitude earthquake and violent aftershocks, causing great loss of life and property in both countries.
